1. Do Research In Advance

· General company information can be obtained from their website about their history, products, clients, financial performance, as well as future plans and strategies for growth.

· Information about the job can also be gleaned from the website, job advertisements, job title, reporting duties and requirements.

· The company culture and work environment.

 

2. Interview Day

· Find out beforehand, the location and how to get there.

· Be properly attired and ensure that your appearance is clean and neat.

· Appropriate body language i.e. good posture, eye contact and be professional.

· Good presentation style i.e. dynamic, enthusiastic, excited, interested, attentive.

· Communication skills i.e. expressive, articulate, concise, focused and direct.

 

3. What Are Employers Looking At?

· Your technical competence i.e. Knowledge, skills, past performance and career history.

· Motivation for the job i.e. How motivated are you for the job, how do you feel about the job, your likes & dislikes.

· Adapting to the work environment i.e. Compatibility, past/preferred work environment.

· Adapting to the boss i.e. Compatibility, past/preferred boss’ philosophy and style.

· Interpersonal relationships i.e. How well you get along with the rest of the staff.

· Past failures i.e. factors that influence you past work performance.

· Past contributions to the companies that you have worked at.

 

4. Key Interview Questions From The Employer

· Reasons for leaving previous employment? (Hot question)

· Expected salary? Notice period?

· Your technical strengths, personal strengths and most outstanding qualities.

· Describe you past job performance (Rating) and what are the views from your previous boss and co-workers?

· Your key objectives? Your biggest contribution to the company? What previous employment were you happiest in?

· What are your most interesting challenges? How have you handled job related problems? Give examples! (Hot question)

· What are your major weaknesses and which area of yourself would you most like to improve?

· What are you career plans for the next 3-5 or 5-10 years? How about your long term goals?

· How is you academic performance? What is the most valuable thing about your past education? Do you have any plans for educational upgrading?

· What are you personal traits? Which are you most proud of or would most like to change?

· Describe your past relationship with your boss and co-workers and what are the kind of people you most enjoy working with? And, have the most difficulty working with?

· Which past environment were you happiest in/least happy in? why?

· What working environment do you find motivational and stimulating?

· What is you preferred boss’ style? What do you like/dislike about your current boss?

· Where and what did you do to learn how to communicate effectively?
